How to Install Google Analytics in WordPress


Google Analytics is a web analytics software that tracks and reports about website traffic. Google Analytics is one of the widely used web analytics software on the World Wide Web.

Google Analytics helps to know how your audience interacts with your website. I will be explaining how you can install Google Analytics into your WordPress installation.

How to Signup for a Google Analytics Account

The first step is to create a Google Analytics account. To create one, you need to visit: Google Analytics Signup Page. Click Signup button and you will see the login screen similar to one shown below. You need to enter your login details and then click Sign In.

After clicking Sign In, you will be presented with the below screen, where you need to click the Signup button as shown on the left-hand side of the below screen.

After clicking Signup as instructed above, you will be presented with the below screen to prompt you to enter your website or blow details. You will need to enter the information and once done, you will click “Get Tracking ID” button at the bottom of the screen. On the next screen you will be provided with Google Analytics terms and service, which you must agree to, and then click “I Agree” button.



You will be provided with Google Analytics Tracking Code e.g. UA-XXXXXXXX-1. You are required to copy this Tracking Code to your WordPress website or blog.

How to Install Google Analytics in your WordPress website or blog

You can add Google Analytics into your WordPress through the use of plugins or by inserting code in functions.php.

After adding the Google Analytics code into your website you will need to visit Reporting tab to see your website’s analytics overview. It usually takes Google up to 1 day to start sending your site the updated information.
